I had been meaning to write this post for about a week, but I did not get myself motivated to do it. For some reason, it was decided that New Jersey needs a new slogan. I'm not sure what the old one was, but it was important enough for acting Governor Dick Codey (Referred to by the Jersey Guys on New Jersey 101.5 as "Shrek") to spend more than $200,000 of taxpayer money to a marketing company and then reject their solutions. I was listening to 101.5 one afternoon as the slogans were being debated. One was "New Jersey- we'll win you over". The hosts of the show said that slogan would be just fine with one word change: "New Jersey- we'll f you over" was their suggestion.
It's too late to take part in the voting, but the official state page is here: http://nj.gov/slogan/. I did not vote, as I thought all five offerings were incredibly cheesy. I would like one with, in the spirit of 101.5's suggestion, a brief modification: "New Jersey- comes see (how screwed up this place really is) for yourself".

My wife seems to have the idea that I hate New Jersey. Well, other than the fact that I have a really good job here, we own a house, and I genuinely do love her family and as such enjoy living near to them, I would rather live in a real state like Texas. However, every time I start to think that New Jersey's roads are some of the worst I've ever seen, all it takes is a drive through Philadelphia on their Shore Kill, I mean Schuykill Expressway to disabuse myself of the notion that no other state is as incapable of properly designing a road.
My friend Geoff, linked on the side of my main page, keeps telling me that I should leave because New Jersey is such a liberal hell hole. I actually think the opposite: that he, and other freedom loving Americans, should stop running away from blue states and rather start flocking to them. Let's start voting and trying to change things around. Stop running away like it will actually solve our problems.
